Overview of 2006-2007 Indoor Season

It has been a very successful season for all three competitive women’s teams.

Classics Premier:
Having won Classics Division 1 last year the team was promoted to the Premier Division for the 2006-2007 season. Due to the big jump in skill level most Div. 1 teams that go up to Premier are relegated right back down the following year. I’m pleased to say that our team finished tied for 5th but were only a game shy of finishing in fourth. It came down to the last game of the season against the top team. The team was down two to one in the first half and came back to tie the game up with 3 minutes left. Unfortunately the Spirit scored with 40 seconds left to go in the game. Overall the ladies were competitive in their games and proved they could compete at this high level of soccer. Top scorers for the season were Jan Anderson –8, Dee Dee Cook – 8, and Joanne Daviduk – 7.

Classics Division 3:
Being a new team we had to start in the bottom division. We had a very successful season winning all but two games. We had a very strong keeper in Dena Sykes who only allowed 9 goals in all season. We successfully won the division and challenged to by-pass Division 2 and move into Classics Division 1. It was an exciting game with the Cochrane ladies dominating the play. Unfortunately we finished in a 1-1 tie and were unsuccessful in our bid to skip a Division. Top scorers for the season were Rachel Saxberg – 11, Patti Nielson – 9, and Brenda Kelly – 7

Division 4:
Starting the season with mostly new players the team got off to a rough start but mid way through came into their own and finished the season in fifth place. The team looks forward to participating in Division 3 for outdoor. Top scorers were Carrie Walz – 8, Courney Arneson – 5, and Joanna French – 5

Thanks to Robert Clapperton - Classics Premier, Ken Harrison - Classics Div. 3 and Brent Zimmerman - Open Division 4 for all of their time and effort to help make us better players.

We look forward to the 2007 Outdoor Season.
